A growth in family size necessitated an expansion of holiday living on this east coast beach section. This led to the demolition of the existing 1950's bach for two new low cost beach houses, each sleeping ten people.

The weekend retreats, each built on a $100,000 budget, are designed with a Pacific Rim Buree influence, utilizing generously curved roofs, exposed timber pole structures, and screening.

The materials are simple but used with confidence; black Onduline corrugated cladding contrasting with boldly painted weatherboards, with exposed timber allowed to slowly weather in the salted beach location.

The northern sun is used advantageously with the living space opening out through 6.0 metre wide multi fold glazed doors onto a large sun terrace. Sun and shadow create complex patterning across the simple face through the high-level timber screening.

Simplicity is the central theme, from the low maintenance materials and form, to the remote control switching that turns on water and electrical services prior to arrival, making these beach houses a genuine weekend retreat.
