Success for Team Architects Dunedin!

The NZIA Southern Architecture awards were held in Queenstown on the 7th of June, recognising 24 projects within the region.  Team Architects Dunedin, in collaboration with Lab-Works Architecture, collected an award for the Mellor Laboratories Redevelopment at the University of Otago. The jury of Roger Beattie, Bronwen Kerr, Mark Gray and Megan Rule commented on the daunting brief of the project and the success in meeting students’ needs despite this. They complimented the achievement of both the “complex functional programme to meet 21st century expectations” and the creation of “a vibrant and technically sophisticated solution within the envelope of a 1970’s chemistry building.” The striking 13-tonne molecular structure signalling the new entrance was also noted by the judges, and highlights the significance of the science precinct at the university. Team Architects Dunedin and Lab-Works Architecture have created state of the art laboratories focusing on modern learning approaches which “will meet students’ needs for many years to come.”
