Brian Lee

Associate, New Plymouth

NZCD Arch, Waikato Polytechnic

An associate at Team Architect’s New Plymouth branch, Brian is an experienced project manager with a strong technical background. His hands-on management style sees him leading projects from concept through to completion on time and within budget. Approachable, industrious and honest, Brian is willing to go the distance to achieve a successful outcome for his clients.

He has played an integral role in a large number of projects around New Zealand in areas ranging from retail, residential, community to health, hospitality and commercial. His specific expertise lies in aged care, sport, recreation facilities, and education.

With 35 years’ industry experience, Brian combines his solid construction knowledge and innate problem-solving skills with an appreciation of the budgetary constraints and the practical and compliance issues inherent in every project.

After graduating, Brian spent several years in London at leading architectural and master-planning firm Chapman Taylor working on large hotel and historic-building refurbishment projects.

He enjoys projects of all sizes and scopes, and particularly revels in the unique challenges of smaller civic and education developments that will benefit a large number of people, such as the Rotorua Events Centre, New Plymouth’s Puke Ariki Museum, and the Caroline Bay Aquatic Centre.

Good, honest architecture appeals most to Brian, and admires the work of local architects Miles Warren, Ian Athfield and Don Donnithorne. He also loves the early modernist work of Mies Van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright, the distinctive style of Antoni Gaudí, and the designs of Frank Gehry and Norman Foster.
