With an eye for well-planned and executed design that achieves its function without waste and ostentation, Darren understands the role design plays in enhancing everyday experiences. Logical, capable and thorough, he began his career as an architectural draughtsman before training as an architect.
Over a career of more than 30 years to date, he has amassed considerable experience across a range of design specialties. Darren’s portfolio includes retail, hospitality, industrial and commercial projects, as well as community, public and sports facilities. Among his other specialist areas are infrastructure (including fire protection and electrical substation upgrades), and government buildings at Linton and Ohakea for the New Zealand Defence Force. Darren also has significant experience in project planning, property asset review and remedial works, and his specific strengths lie in project analysis, and planning and coordination, especially for complex programmes.
With a lifelong love of learning and teaching, Darren has qualifications in design, building inspection, contraction management and law, and is currently studying towards a BBS in Valuation & Property Management through Massey University. Since 2015, he has been a lecturer in interior design at UCOL, and is a member of the Design and Decorating Advisory Group at the Open Polytechnic of NZ as well as Chair of the NZIA Western branch.
Darren has won several local NZIA and Resene awards, as well as the awards for the Master Builders Association Regional House of the Year and the National Gold Reserve medal.
