Peter has a keen appreciation of aesthetic values and sustainability issues, coupled with a pragmatic understanding of construction. It’s a combination that allows him to deliver creative, client-focused architectural solutions. Genuine, optimistic and a critical thinker, he enjoys collaborating with others to create buildings that work for people at all levels. Peter’s design expertise extends across residential, educational, civic, community, health, refurbishment and industrial projects.

Peter has worked in the design and building industry for 30-plus years. Over this time, he has been in sole practice, spent five years at the Ministry of Works, laboured on building sites, spent a decade on the academic teaching staff at Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Architecture & Design, and worked in the curriculum development team that established the Bachelor of Design programme.

Peter has received a raft of awards for his design for the Kimi Ora Special Needs School in Naenae – the first New Zealand school project to achieve a 5 Greenstar Design Rating. His accolades for this project include recognition from the NZIA, the NZGBC, Registered Master Builders, and the NZ Wood Awards. Peter’s design for Project Rehome for the Wellington SPCA also won a NZ Property Council Award for Heritage and Adaptive Reuse.

His design philosophy combines sustainability with a low-tech, pragmatic approach and a love of the Scandinavian modernist aesthetic. His favourite examples of architecture include Antoni Gaudí’s iconic Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Pantheon in Rome and Eero Saarinen’s TWA Flight Center in New York.
