This new home sits on the coastal plain next to a small creek just 200m from the high water line. The home is two storeys, with the upper floor afforded panoramic views of the Tasman Sea, Southern Alps and Aoraki/Mt Cook. The materials palette of weathered cedar, grey concrete block and anodised aluminium was chosen for low maintenance and to encapsulate the coastal character of the location. Glazing has been carefully articulated to maximise the views whilst balancing heat loss, solar gain and retaining an efficient thermal envelope. A rear deck cantilevered over the creek provides an outdoor living space sheltered from the prevailing cool coastal breezes.
