The Ministry for Primary Industries building in Greymouth has achieved a NABERSNZ 4-star energy rating, recognising the building's strong operational performance.
NABERSNZ is New Zealands independant rating system for measuring the energy efficiency of occupied office buildings. Unlike design-based assessments, ratings are determined using actual energy consumption data, providing a clear picture of how a building performs in day-to-day operation. A4 star rating represents good performance and places the building above the national average for comparable office buildings.
Designed by TEAM Greymouth, the MPI facility down in Greymouth was developed to provide a modern, resilient workplace that responds to the unique environmental conditions of the west coast while supporting the operational requirements of the ministry.
The NABERSNZ rating confirms that the building is performing strongly in use, demonstrating that key project objectives around efficiency, durability and long-term performance are being realised in operation. As the industry increasingly focuses on measurable outcomes, post-occupancy assessments such as NABERSNZ provide an important benchmark between design and operational reality.
Achieving this result reflects the collective of the client and TEAM Greymouth, building operators and occupants, and highlights the value of a considered performance-led approach to design.
