With an invaluable five decades of industry experience, Terry has specialist skills in design, project management, property management, and cultural and civic projects. He first started his own practice in the 1970s and after many successful years as director and principal, Terry now works as a consultant for Team Architects New Plymouth office. His role includes project initiation and peer review, as well as identifying and facilitating the development of sites nationwide for large commercial and residential apartment projects.

Terry’s extensive and wide-ranging design portfolio includes art galleries, theatres, museums, visitor and events centres, offices, shopping centres, hotels, banks, supermarkets and apartments around New Zealand. Among his more notable international projects is the 2300m2 New Zealand Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for which he carried out on-site construction management. Terry has also designed multiple housing projects in Queensland, Australia.

Terry began his career at acclaimed architecture and engineering firm Norman and Dawbarn in London. During the 1970s and ’80s, he went on study tours through Iran, Scandinavia, Europe, Australia and the US. Terry has continued to travel regularly, connecting with architects worldwide and studying completed buildings in his special-interest fields of galleries and museums, central urban development, and shopping centres.

A Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, Terry is also an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects and an honorary member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. From 1985 to 1987, he was President of the NZIA.
